Gecko (Gecko) - Gecko (English spelling)

Japanese: ヤモリ(守宮) - ヤモリ(英語表記)gecko
Gecko (Gecko) - Gecko (English spelling)
A general term for lizards belonging to the family Gekkonidae of the order Squamata in the class Reptilia that have evolved into special forms. Approximately 670 species are distributed widely in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, with some even reaching temperate zones. Most are around 10 cm in length, but the Gekko gecko (illustration), found in tropical Asia, is about 30 cm in length, and the Sphaerodactylus of the West Indies is about 5 cm in length. Geckos, which live in narrow spaces such as under tree bark, have eyes that are protected by a single transparent scale that is a modified lower eyelid, and they often extend their tongues to clean surfaces.
