Yamauchi-so

Japanese:
Yamauchi-so
This manor was located in Sagami Province, and its relict land area is now Yamanouchi in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture. It is believed to be the northern part of the city and Sakae Ward, Yokohama City, to the north of that area. It is unclear when the manor was established, but in the early Kamakura period it was the territory of Emperor Goshirakawa, and later became the territory of Chokodo, which was passed down to the Jimyoin line. In the 1191 Chokodo Territory Catalogue, it appears to be one of the manors that was not subject to annual taxes. However, around 1224-1242, the control of the main area had become a mere formality. On the other hand, Yamauchi Manor was the main territory of the Yamauchi Suto clan, who had been vassals of the Minamoto clan for generations. When Minamoto no Yoritomo raised an army in 1180, Yamauchi Suto Tsunetoshi sided with the Taira clan, and after Yoritomo's victory, Yamauchi Manor was confiscated and given to Doi Sanehira. After the Wada War in 1213, it was incorporated into the Hojo Tokuso territory. After the fall of the Kamakura Shogunate, the manor became the territory of Ashikaga Tadayoshi, and each district within the manor was allocated to temples in Kamakura and senior vassals of the Ashikaga clan. The powerful Uesugi clan is called the Yamanouchi Uesugi clan because they lived in Yamanouchi. The manor included Iwase-go, Yoshida-go, Maioka-go, Akiba-go, Tomizuka-go, Nagao-go, and Yamazaki-go.
