The name of a region centered on the Hunza Valley in Gilgit-Baltistan, northern Pakistan. It refers to the Hunza princely state, which was ruled by a prince until 1974. It borders China and Afghanistan, and settlements are scattered along the Karakoram Highway. The center is Karimabad. Many of the residents are Ismailis, a branch of Shiite Islam.
