A group of Western Slavs who began to migrate after the fall of the Huns in the late 5th century. They invaded after the Germanic migration and settled in the middle and upper reaches of the Elbe River. In the early 10th century, German king Henry I built many burgs (fortresses) on the border with the Slavs, but the Sorbs did not submit to the German lords, but simply converted to Christianity and promised tribute. They currently live in Poland. Source: Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia About Encyclopaedia Britannica Concise Encyclopedia Information |
