When the cleavage of the bond A:B, which is formed by atoms A and B sharing two electrons, occurs symmetrically, with A and B each gaining one electron, that is, when the cleavage proceeds as follows: A:B―→A・+・B ……(1), this type is called homolytic cleavage. The resulting A・ and ・B (including when they consist of a single atom) have an odd number of valence electrons, including the unpaired electron, and are called radicals (also called free radicals or free radicals). …
