...(1) Plasmasphere The region above RE + 1000 km from the center of the Earth, from about 4 RE on the morning side to about 6 RE on the evening side, is filled with relatively low-temperature plasma (10 4 to 10 5 K) flowing from the ionosphere below, and is distinguished from other regions as the plasmasphere (Figure 4). At the upper boundary of the plasmasphere, called the plasmapause, the plasma density changes suddenly, and a decrease of more than one order of magnitude from 10 2 to 10 3 particles/cm3 to 1 to 10 particles/cm3 is observed in a narrow region of about 0.1 RE .
