Japanese: 文字表示装置 - もじひょうじそうち（英語表記）character display

A type of computer output device. Also known as a character display. Displays characters such as the alphabet, kana, and kanji on the screen of a cathode ray tube (CRT) or other display device. Used in combination with a keyboard for interactive processing with a computer. Displayed characters are usually represented as a dot matrix; devices that display the alphabet, numbers, and kana characters use about 7 x 9 dots per character, while devices that display kanji use 16 x 16 or 24 x 24 dots.

コンピューターの出力装置の一種。キャラクターディスプレーともいう。陰極線管(CRT)その他の表示装置のスクリーン上にアルファベット，仮名，漢字などの文字を表示する。鍵盤と組み合わせてコンピューターとの会話的処理を行うのに使用される。表示文字はふつうドットマトリックスで表され，アルファベット，数字，仮名文字までを表示する装置であれば1文字を7×9ドット程度，漢字まで表示する装置では16×16あるいは24×24ドットが使用される。
