A waxy substance obtained mainly from the fruit of the Hazenoki tree, also known as haze wax. It is a higher fatty acid glyceride that belongs to the category of oils and fats, and is different from so-called wax, which is a higher fatty alcohol ester. Wood wax has been harvested in China since ancient times, but as the raw material, the Hazenoki tree, has been cultivated and improved in Japan for many years, it has become a Japanese specialty, and is found in the Kyushu, Chugoku, and Shikoku regions. The fruit of the Hazenoki tree contains 16-40% wood wax, the peel 49-70%, and the flesh 50-55%. Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
