Taiga Climate - Taiga Climate
In the WP Köppen climate classification, it is classified as Dw, and is also known as a subarctic dry winter climate or a subarctic rainy summer climate. Summers are short and slightly rainy, similar to those of a subarctic humid climate, but winters are cold, dry, and long. There is a large annual temperature range. Coniferous forests (taiga) are widely distributed, providing abundant forest resources. The soil is mainly poor podzols, and therefore there is very little land suitable for farming, but the cultivation of cold-tolerant crops (oats, potatoes, barley, etc.) has progressed and the arable limit is gradually shifting northward.

W.P.ケッペンの気候区分法ではDwで,冷帯冬季乾燥気候または亜寒帯夏雨気候ともいう。夏は冷帯湿潤気候と同様で短く,少し雨が降るが,冬は寒くて乾燥気味で,期間が長いのが特徴。気温の年較差がきわめて大きい。針葉樹林(タイガ)が広く分布し,豊富な森林資源となっている。土壌はやせたポドゾルが主で,そのため農耕適地はきわめて少ないが,耐寒性作物(エンバク,ジャガイモ,オオムギなど)の栽培が進められ耕作限界線が徐々に北へ推移している。
