This ding has the longest inscription among Chinese bronze objects. It is said to have been excavated in Qishan County, Shaanxi Province around 1850. It is 53.8 cm high, 47.9 cm in diameter, and has a ring-shaped band around the body. The inscription, which consists of 32 lines and 497 characters, is an explanation by the King of Zhou to Mao Gong'an of the principles of governance. Based on its content and the shape of the vessel, it is believed to date to the end of the Western Zhou period, but there is also a theory that the inscription is a forgery.
