Swedish author. Born into a poor family in the north. He studied extensively on his own during his time in Berlin and Paris from 1921 to 1923, and established himself with his autobiographical tetralogy "Tales of Olov" (1934-1937). During World War II, he criticized the Nazis in his trilogy "Crollin Groove" and joined the resistance movement. He was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1974.
