? - c.1306 BC The seventh king of the New Hittite Kingdom. Reigned c.1339 BC - c.1306 BC. Leading a powerful Hittite army, he fought in various places, and built on the legacy of his father, King Suppiluliuma, establishing the Golden Age of Hittite history. After Suppiluliuma's death, his eldest son Arnuwanda I succeeded him, but he died of illness after two years, and his second son Mursili became the great king. In the early part of his reign, he was troubled by rebellions both at home and abroad that took advantage of the deaths of his father and brother, but after putting down these, he confronted the great neighboring kingdom of Arzawa to the southwest, and finally destroyed it. He divided the kingdom into four small kingdoms, eliminating any worries, and prepared the kingdom to advance into Syria with all its might.
