Uffizi Gallery - Uffizi Museum (English name) Galleria degli Uffizi
An art museum in Florence, Italy. Its collection of Renaissance paintings is the largest in the world in terms of both quality and quantity. Construction of the building began in 1560, designed by Giorgio Vasari, as the government office of Cosimo I de' Medici, Grand Duke of Florence and later the first Grand Duke of Tuscany. It was meant to be an office (Uffizi) adjacent to the former government office of Florence, Palazzo Vecchio. That is why it is still called the Uffizi Palace today. The Medici collections began to be collected at the Uffizi Palace during the time of Cosimo I, and from 1581 onwards they were kept by Francesco I. In 1737, the last member of the Medici family, Anna Maria Ludovica, donated it to the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, and according to her will it became a museum open to the public, and later became a national museum after the unification of Italy. The collection includes important works by Italian Renaissance painters from the 14th to 16th centuries, as well as Baroque and Rococo painters from the 17th and 18th centuries, and painters from the German and Flemish Northern Renaissance. Famous works include "Madonna of Ognissanti" by Giotto di Bondone, "Annunciation" by Simone Martini, "Birth of Venus" and "Primavera" by Sandro Botticelli, "Annunciation" by Leonardo da Vinci, "Holy Family" by Michelangelo, "Madonna and Child with the Goldfinch" by Raphael Sanzio, "Venus of Urbino" by Tiziano Vecellio, "Young Bacchus" by Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, "Adoration of the Magi" by Albrecht Dürer, and "Adoration of the Shepherds" by Hugo van der Goes.
