Musashino Gakuin

Japanese: 武蔵野学院 - むさしのがくいん

Its official name is National Musashino Gakuin. It is a national facility for boys to support the independence of children (formerly known as a reformatory). Kinugawa Gakuin is another national facility for girls. Children's independence support facilities are established based on the Child Welfare Act (promulgated in 1947, partially revised in 1997) with the aim of admitting and providing education to children who have engaged in delinquent behavior or who are at risk of engaging in delinquent behavior. Reformatory schools were established one after another based on the Reformation Act promulgated in 1900, and became juvenile reformatories in 1934. After the Child Welfare Act was enacted, they were called reformatories, but with the partial revision of the same act in 1997, they were renamed Children's Independence Support Facilities.

正称は国立武蔵野学院。男子を対象とした国立の児童自立支援施設(旧，教護院)。女子を対象とした国立の同施設に，きぬ川学院がある。児童自立支援施設は，不良行為をし，または不良行為をするおそれのある児童を入院させ，教護することを目的とし児童福祉法(1947公布，97一部改正)に基づいて設置される。1900年公布の感化法に基づいて感化院が逐次設置され，1934年少年教護院となり，児童福祉法制定後は教護院と呼ばれていたが，97年の同法一部改正にともなって，児童自立支援施設と改称することとなった。
