Kaiserthermen (English spelling)

Kaiserthermen (English spelling)
This is a Roman ruin located on the outskirts of Trier, a city on the Moselle River in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate in western Germany. It is about 1.5 km from Trier Central Station, about a 20-minute walk, and is near the palace park where the Electoral Palace and the Rheinland Museum are located. Trier originated as a garrison and logistics base for the Roman legions, and in the 3rd and 4th centuries it developed into one of the largest cities in the Roman Empire, and became one of the four capitals during the transition to the Tetrarchy. In the early 4th century, Constantine I, who officially recognized Christianity as the state religion of Rome, settled here. As a result, Roman ruins have been passed down to the present day. ◇One of these, the Kaiserthermen (Imperial Baths), is, as its name suggests, the remains of a large bath built around that time. The facility had not only hot and cold baths, but also saunas, massages, and sports facilities, and was more like a modern-day kurhaus or health center than a bathhouse. Currently, in addition to parts of the buildings, traces of water pipes, basements, and underfloor heating remain. Nearby are the remains of the Barbara Thermen baths (only the foundations and underground passages remain), which date back about 200 years, a Roman bridge, an amphitheater, and other ruins. Along with St. Peter's Basilica and the Basilica of Our Lady, it is registered as a World Heritage Site.
