Mr. Saisho

Japanese: 税所氏 - さいしょうじ

A powerful clan and local government official based in Sono County, Osumi Province since the Heian period. The family name was Fujiwara (formerly Himeka). In the Osumi Province Map of Fields for 1197 (Kenkyu 8), Zeisho Atsuyo is listed as the headman of 33 cho of Shigetomi-na in Sono County, as well as Shigetake-na and Matsunaga-na in Kuwato-go, and in the Osumi Province Gokenin Kyomi-na of the following year, he is listed as the leader of 14 provincial officials. Atsuyo's son Atsumitsu was killed in the Wada War and was succeeded by his younger brother Sukemitsu, but his son Yoshisuke wielded great influence, holding the positions of Osumi Province Daisuke and Tax Office, Osoryo-shi, Sono County District Magistrate, Kirishima Shrine Chief Priest, Tokami Shrine Chief Priest, Satsuma Province Mankain District Magistrate, and Atsuchiyama District Chief.

平安時代以来大隅国曾於(野)郡を本拠とした豪族，在庁官人。税所の検校職を世襲したところから氏名となる。藤原(古くは檜前)姓。1197年(建久8)の大隅国図田帳に曾野郡重富名33丁のほか，同重武名，桑東郷松永名の名主として税所篤用があり，翌年の大隅国御家人交名（きようみよう）には国方14名中の筆頭にみえる。篤用の子篤(敦)満は和田合戦で討死，その弟祐満が跡をつぐが，その子義祐は大隅国大介兼税所職，押領使職，曾野郡郡司職，霧島神社座主･止上（とかみ）神社大宮司職等のほか，薩摩国満家院郡司職，厚智山座主職等を兼帯，勢威をふるった。
