In ancient Mesopotamia and Egypt, dome-shaped granaries made of sun-dried bricks were used, sometimes reaching a diameter of 10 meters. Small domes up to 4 meters in diameter are still built today in the exact same way as in ancient times, as granaries, livestock sheds, and homes.

...Even in the soft lagoon soil, a unique foundation was developed in which larch or oak stakes were driven into the hard layer of the earth and then Istrian stone was placed on top of them, making it possible to build buildings directly out of the water.
