A village in Kitakoma County in northwest Yamanashi Prefecture. Population 3,520 (1995). Occupying the south bank of the Kamanashi River and the northern foot of Mt. Houou, the Otake River to the north and the Kotake River to the south flow east and empty into the Kamanashi River. Most of the village area is forest, but rice fields have been developed in the lowlands along the Kamanashi River in the east. The village is mainly agricultural, but in recent years there has been a shift from rice cultivation and sericulture to the cultivation of fruit trees, vegetables, and dairy farming. It is at the trailhead for Minami-Alps National Park, and Yabunoyu Onsen (earth-containing saline spring, 21°C) is located in the Otake River valley. 山梨県北西部,北巨摩(きたこま)郡の村。人口3520(1995)。釜無川南岸,鳳凰山北麓を占め,北を大武川,南を小武川が東流して釜無川に注ぐ。村域の大半が山林であるが,東部の釜無川沿いの低地には水田が開かれている。農業主体であるが,近年米作,養蚕から果樹や野菜の栽培,酪農へと転換が進んだ。南アルプス国立公園の登山口にあたり,大武川の渓流には藪ノ湯温泉(含土類食塩泉,21℃)がある。実相寺の山高神代桜,万休院の舞鶴松はともに天然記念物。
