An Iranian enlightened thinker. Born in Bardshir, Kerman, as the son of a landowner. After studying basic Islamic studies in Kerman, he traveled throughout Iran. He then moved to Istanbul, where he criticized the Qajar dynasty's despotic ruling system in the newspaper Ahtar, while also advocating rationalism and engaging in anti-religious activities. He was well versed in Western thought and was also influenced by anarchism and socialism. Following the assassination of the Qajar monarch Naser al-Din Shah (1896), he was arrested and detained by the Ottoman government, then handed over to the Iranian authorities and executed in Tabriz.

イランの啓蒙思想家。ケルマーン地方のバルドシールに地主の子として生まれる。ケルマーンで基礎的なイスラム諸学を修めた後，イラン各地を遍歴。その後イスタンブールに移り，同地発行の《アフタル》紙上でカージャール朝の専制的支配体制批判の論陣を張る一方，理性主義を唱え，反宗教活動を展開した。西欧思想に精通し，アナーキズム，社会主義の運動にも影響を受けた。カージャール朝君主ナーセロッディーン･シャー暗殺事件(1896)を機に，オスマン帝国政府により逮捕･拘禁され，その後イラン当局に引き渡されてタブリーズで刑死した。
