Mibugawa River

It originates in the Akaishi Mountains on the border of Nagano, Yamanashi and Shizuoka prefectures, flows north through the Akaishi Tectonic Valley, joins the Yamamuro River and Fujisawa River in Takato-cho, Ina City, Nagano Prefecture, then turns west, crosses the Ina Mountains and flows into the Tenryu River in Higashiharuchika, Ina City. It is about 70 km long. Its course is complex, with the main stream originating from Mt. Shiomi and joining the Todai River and Oguro River originating from Mt. Senjogatake. The Mibu River Comprehensive Development Project was started in 1952 (Showa 27), and the prefectural multi-purpose Takato and Miwa Dams were built, and the surrounding area became the Mibu River System Prefectural Natural Park. The upper reaches are covered with cypress, fir and sawara trees, and in the early modern period, there were many wooden houses scattered around. There is also an isolated settlement known as the Heike refugee settlement.

長野・山梨・静岡県境の赤石山脈に発し、赤石構造谷を北流して長野県伊那(いな)市高遠(たかとお)町地区で山室川、藤沢川と合流したのち、西折して伊那山地を横切り、伊那市東春近(ひがしはるちか)で天竜川に注ぐ。延長約70キロメートル。流路は複雑で、本流は塩見岳に発し、仙丈ヶ岳に発する戸台川や小黒(おぐろ)川などと合流する。荒れ川で1952年（昭和27）から三峰川総合開発が進められ、県営の多目的の高遠、美和両ダムがつくられ、周辺は三峰川水系県立自然公園になっている。上流部はヒノキ、モミ、サワラなどが多く、近世には木地屋(きじや)が点在していた。また平家の落人(おちゅうど)集落といわれる隔絶集落もある。
