[1] [noun] (a variation of "aoume (green plum)") ① A blue plum. [Nippo Jisho (1603-04)] ② An abbreviation of "ōmejima (green plum stripes) ①". ※Dangihon Tosei Shitadedangi (1752), 3 "A six-foot-tall man, wearing a checkered-dyed cap, green plum cloth, and turmeric -dyed cotton satin." [2] A place name in the northwest of Tokyo. Taniguchi village developed where the Tama River flows out of the Kanto Mountains onto the Musashino Plateau. A post station on the Ome Kaido road. Formerly a producer of cotton fabrics such as ōme-stripes. Established as a city in 1951 .
