A small perennial plant of the Acanthaceae family. The genus has diversified mainly in tropical Malaysia, and about 100 species are known. The stem crawls along the ground, roots from the nodes, and is 10-15 cm long. The leaves are egg-shaped broad elliptical or circular, 1-2 cm long and wide, and have coarse hairs on both sides. Two to three pairs of flowers are gathered in a head at the end of the stem. The corolla is funnel-shaped, white, about 15 mm long, and has five equal lobes at the tip. There are two rows of hairs on the inner back of the corolla to support the style. There are four stamens, two of which are short. The fruit is a linear-lanceolate capsule containing 8-10 seeds.
