Mizuno Jurozaemon

In the early Edo period, he was the leader of the "Hatamoto Yakko". His name was Nariyuki. He was a member of the Mizuno clan, a hereditary vassal of the Tokugawa clan, and held a fief of 3,000 koku in Kazusa Province (Chiba Prefecture). He joined the Hatamoto Yakko and became the leader of the Daisho Jingi-gumi. He became famous for assassinating Banzuiin Chobei, a popular town yakko in Edo at the time, and a nishikie (colored woodblock print) remains. It is said that this incident was the result of Nariyuki's resentment and revenge after Chobei had defeated a Hatamoto Yakko under Jurozaemon during a fight at a theater. According to the official records of the shogunate, on July 29, 1657 (Meireki 3), Jurozaemon reported to the senior councilor that he had killed and killed the samurai Banzuiin Chobei, but was found not guilty because Chobei was a ronin. However, as he continued to commit acts of violence in the city, he was placed in the care of Matsudaira (Hachisuka) Mitsutaka, the lord of Tokushima Domain, and on March 27, 1664 (Kanbun 4), during questioning at the Hyojosho, he was ordered to commit seppuku, as his strange appearance with his hair covered in white clothing was deemed disrespectful, and on the following day, the 28th, his son Momosuke was also executed for his father's crimes.

江戸前期、「旗本奴(はたもとやっこ)」の頭目。名は成之(なりゆき)。徳川氏の譜代(ふだい)水野氏の一族で上総(かずさ)国（千葉県）に3000石の知行(ちぎょう)をもつ。旗本奴の群に投じ大小神祇組(じんぎぐみ)の首領となる。当時、江戸で人気の町奴(まちやっこ)幡随院長兵衛(ばんずいいんちょうべえ)を謀殺した事件で有名となり、錦絵(にしきえ)が残っている。その一件は、芝居見物中の喧嘩(けんか)で長兵衛が十郎左衛門配下の旗本奴を打ち負かしたのを恨みに思い、復讐(ふくしゅう)したものといわれる。幕府側の公式記録によれば、1657年（明暦3）7月29日、十郎左衛門は男達(おとこだて)幡随院長兵衛を討ち捨てた旨を老中に届け出たが、長兵衛が浪人者ということで無罪となった。しかしその後も市中で乱暴を働くので徳島藩主松平（蜂須賀(はちすか)）光隆(みつたか)に預けられ、64年（寛文4）3月27日、評定所(ひょうじょうしょ)での尋問の際、「被髪白衣」の異様な風体が不敬であるとされ切腹を命ぜられ、翌28日、子百助(ももすけ)も父の罪で処刑された。
