Born: January 16, 1847 in Scraboniya [Died] May 28, 1910, Budapest Hungarian novelist. He published novels while traveling around the country as a newspaper reporter, and established his literary reputation with the short story A tót atyafiak (Slovak Relatives) (1881), which was based on peasant life. He subsequently published many long and short novels. He keenly observed the decline of aristocratic society and the interactions between officials and the people, skillfully depicting them with ironic humor. In addition to the novels Szent Péter esernyöje (95), Különös házasság (A Strange Marriage) (1900), and A ven gazember (The Old Scoundrel) (A ven gazember) (06), he also published many collections of short stories.
