Malolos (English spelling)

Japanese: マロロス（英語表記）Malolos

A town in the eastern delta of the Pampanga River on the north shore of Manila Bay in central Luzon, Philippines. It is the capital of Bulacan Province. It is a distribution center for rice and vegetables grown in the southern part of the province and fish farmed in the delta, and is connected by rail to Manila, about 30 km southeast. During the War of Independence that began in 1896, it was the seat of the revolutionary assembly, and in January 1899, the Republic of the Philippines was proclaimed at Barasoain Cathedral, and it served as its capital until March of the same year. Population 95,699 (1980).
