Ancient Greek potter. Active in Athens from 470 to 425 BC. Named for a red-figure amphora depicting Achilles, now in the Vatican Museums. Heavily influenced by his teacher, the Berlin Painter, he further developed his technique and style, breaking new ground and producing unparalleled work during the Parthenon period, particularly in the creation of funerary white lekythos. Nearly 100 white lekythos and about 90 red-figure ceramics are attributed to him.
