Spider plant - Orizururan

A perennial plant of the lily family (APG classification: Asparagaceae), distributed in South Africa. The most commonly cultivated variety is the horticultural variety cv. Variegatum , which has white spots on the leaf edges, and is generally called the spider plant. The variety cv. Vittatum , which has yellow-white spots in the center of the leaves, is green and dark. It is often mistaken for an orchid, but the structure of the flower is completely different, and it is not a member of the orchid family. The way it produces new plants from the drooping stolons makes you think of folded paper cranes. It hardly produces stolons, but the variety cv. Picturatum , which has wide leaves and wide yellow-white spots in the center, is also often cultivated. The Siamese spider plant C. laxum R.Br. ( C. bichetii Backer) is small, has thin leaves, and is weak to cold. It is propagated by division, seedlings, and cuttings from new plants. It will survive winter if the temperature is above 5℃. The roots are fleshy and drought resistant.

ユリ科（APG分類：キジカクシ科）の多年草で、南アフリカに分布する。栽培が多いのは、葉縁に白斑(はくはん)の入る園芸品種cv. Variegatumで、一般には本種をオリヅルランとよんでいる。葉の中央に黄白色斑の入る品種cv. Vittatumは緑が多く、暗い感じがする。ランの仲間と間違えられやすいが、花の構造がまったく違い、ラン科の植物ではない。下垂するストロンに新株をつくるようすが折り鶴を想像させる。ストロンはほとんど出さないが、葉の幅が広く、中央に幅広く黄白色斑の入る品種cv.Picturatumもよく栽培される。シャムオリヅルランC. laxum R.Br.（C. bichetii Backer）は小形で葉質が薄く、寒さにも弱い。株分け、実生(みしょう)、新株の挿木で殖やす。5℃以上あれば越冬する。根は多肉質で乾燥に強い。
