Zāhedān (English spelling)

The capital of Sistan-Baluchistan Province in southeastern Iran. Population 419,518 (1996). It is a border town with Afghanistan and Pakistan, and is connected to Pakistan by a railway built by the British for their control of India. Most of the residents are Sunni Baluchi people, who speak the Baluchi language, an Iranian language.

イラン南東部、シースターン・バルーチスターン州の州都。人口41万9518（1996）。アフガニスタンおよびパキスタンとの国境の町で、イギリスがインド支配のために敷設した鉄道によってパキスタンと結ばれている。住民の多くはスンニー派のバルーチ人で、イラン語系のバルーチ語を話す。
