Manosegawa River

The largest river on the Satsuma Peninsula in Kagoshima Prefecture. It is 30 kilometers long and has a drainage area of ​​381 square kilometers. It originates in the mountains 500 to 600 meters above sea level near Suzuyama in Kagoshima City, which is the backbone of the peninsula, flows southwest, then changes direction to the west-northwest, and empties into the East China Sea at Fukiagehama. Tin ore has been found in Suzuyama in the upper reaches since the days of the Satsuma Domain, the Kawabe Basin in the middle reaches, and the riverbed in the narrow parts of the basin below is made of welded tuff, with numerous potholes formed. In recent years, construction of a water conveyance tunnel has been carried out to make up for the water supply shortage in Kagoshima City, and part of the drainage basin has been changed.

鹿児島県薩摩半島(さつまはんとう)部最大の河川。延長30キロメートル、流域面積381平方キロメートル。半島の脊梁(せきりょう)部にあたる鹿児島市錫山(すずやま)付近の500～600メートルの山地に源を発し、南西に流下し、のちに西北西に流向を変え、吹上浜(ふきあげはま)で東シナ海に注ぐ。上流の錫山には薩摩藩政時代以来の錫鉱があり、中流部には川辺盆地、盆地下流の狭窄(きょうさく)部の河床は溶結凝灰岩で、多数のポットホールが形成されている。近年、鹿児島市の水供給不足を補うため、導水トンネル工事が行われ、一部の流域変更が図られた。
