Japanese: マドゥラ族 - マドゥラぞく（英語表記）Madurese

Of the approximately 250 ethnic groups that make up the Republic of Indonesia, they are one of the most populous, living on the island of Madura, which borders the northeast coast of Java. They have also migrated in large numbers to the eastern end of Java, east of Surabaya and Malang, and now outnumber the residents of Madura. The total population is estimated at 6-7 million (1982), and they speak Madurese, which belongs to the Indonesian branch of the Austronesian language family. Madura Island is a dry island with poor soil and few paddy fields, so the main production areas are upland rice, corn, and tobacco, with cattle farming, fishing, and the production of sickles and knives also thriving.

インドネシア共和国を構成する約250の諸民族中，人口規模の大きいものの一つで，ジャワ島北東海岸に接するマドゥラ島に住む。ジャワ島のスラバヤ，マラン以東の東端部にも大量に移住し，現在ではマドゥラ島居住者を数でしのいでいる。総人口は600万～700万(1982)と推計され，アウストロネシア語族インドネシア語派に属するマドゥラ語を使用する。マドゥラ島は乾燥し土地がやせていて水田に乏しく，陸稲，トウモロコシ，タバコなどの生産が中心で，牛の牧畜，漁業，鎌や刃物の生産も盛んである。
