Madame and the Wife - Madam and the Wife

A Japanese film from 1931 (Showa 6). A film-based talkie produced by brothers Tsuchihashi Takeo and Haruo at Shochiku's Kamata Studio, it was the first all-talkie to be acclaimed as a success in Japan. The screenplay was by Kitamura Komatsu, the comedy by Fushimi Akira, and the director Gosho Heinosuke. Following in the footsteps of nonsense, ordinary-bourgeois films, this is a cheerful and humorous portrayal of the few days spent by a young couple (Watanabe Atsushi and Tanaka Kinuyo) who find a new home in the suburbs. It makes use of everyday conversations and the sounds of life, and also effectively contrasts the modern lifestyle of a group of musicians next door (played by Madame Date Satoko) with jazz. It also features a theme song entitled "Speed ​​Age." It is a fine work that sings of the peace of everyday life and exudes a longing for modernism.

日本映画。1931年（昭和6）作品。松竹蒲田(かまた)撮影所の土橋(つちはし)武夫・晴夫兄弟によるフィルム式トーキー作品であり、日本でオール・トーキーの成功作品として初めて評価された。脚本を北村小松、ギャグを伏見晁(ふしみあきら)、監督を五所平之助が担当。ナンセンス小市民映画の系譜を引き、郊外に新居をみつけた若夫婦（渡辺篤(あつし)と田中絹代）の数日を明るくユーモラスに描く。日常の会話と生活の音とを生かし、また、隣の音楽家グループ（マダムが伊達(だて)里子）のモダンな生活とジャズを対比効果的に取り入れた。「スピード時代」と題した主題歌も挿入している。市民生活の平和をうたい、モダニズムへのあこがれを漂わせる佳作。
