Increased volume - Masumoto and measure

Metal physicist. Known for discovering the new KS steel. Born in Hiroshima City. Studied at Tohoku Imperial University, graduating from the Department of Mechanical Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering, then re-enrolled in the Department of Physics, graduating in 1922 (Taisho 11). He joined the university's Steel Research Institute (now the Institute for Metals), becoming a professor in 1933 (Showa 8) and director in 1950 (Showa 25), a position he held until his retirement. After his retirement, he served as director of the Institute for Electrical and Magnetic Materials.

Starting from elucidating the anomalies of iron alloys, he created Koelumbar, Berambar, and Moelumbar as alloys with particular characteristics in the temperature change of their elastic modulus. He then discovered Sendust (named after the city of Sendai), new KS steel, and Alfel as iron alloys used as magnetic materials, making a major contribution to the study of iron alloys. He received the Academy Prize in 1931, the Imperial Prize in 1946, and the Order of Culture in 1955.

金属物理学者。新KS鋼の発見で知られる。広島市の生まれ。東北帝国大学に学び、初め工学部機械工学科を卒業、ついで物理学科に再入学して1922年（大正11）卒業。同大学の鉄鋼研究所（現在の金属材料研究所）に入所し、1933年（昭和8）教授、1950年（昭和25）所長となり、定年退官までその職にあった。退官後は電気磁気材料研究所長を務めた。

　鉄合金の異常性の解明を出発点として、とくに弾性係数の温度変化に特異性をもつ合金としてコエランバー、ベランバー、モエランバーを創出した。ついで磁性材料としての鉄合金として、センダスト（仙台の名にちなむ）、新KS鋼、アルフェルを発見、鉄合金の研究に大きな貢献をした。1931年学士院賞、1946年恩賜賞、1955年文化勲章を受けた。
