Mr. Makino

Japanese: 牧野氏 - まきのうじ

A local lord in eastern Mikawa. At the end of the Sengoku period, he became a vassal of the Matsudaira clan, and in the early modern period, each family member became a feudal lord or a high-ranking hatamoto as a hereditary vassal of the shogun family. He was of Ki clan origin, and ever since Takeuchi no Sukune's descendants, Awa Tamibe no Jo Narinao and Tanai Saemon no Jo Narinao, were appointed as Awa no Kami, their descendants lived in Sanuki Province, but Tanai Saemon no Shigetomi followed the Hosokawa clan to Mikawa Province during the Oei era (1394-1428), and took the name Makino after living in Makino Village, Hoi County (present-day Toyokawa City, Aichi Prefecture). During the Sengoku period, there were two branches of the family, the Ujikatsu family and the Sadashige family.

東三河の国人領主。戦国末期に松平氏の家臣となり，近世には一族の各家は将軍家の門閥譜代家臣として大名や上級旗本となる。出自は紀氏で，武内宿禰の後胤阿波民部丞成能，田内左衛門尉成直親子が阿波守に任じて以来，子孫相うけて讃岐国に住んでいたが，田内左衛門成富が応永年中(1394‐1428)細川氏に従って三河国に移り，宝飯（ほい）郡牧野村(現，愛知県豊川市)に住んでから牧野を称したという。戦国期には氏勝家と定成（さだしげ）家の2流があった。
