Ukiyo-zoshi. Five volumes. Written by Ihara Saikaku. Published in 1686 ( Jokyo 3 ). A collection of short stories consisting of 19 stories depicting the lives of various unfilial people with some exaggeration, with one tale of filial piety at the end as a congratulatory gift. Riding on the trend of encouraging filial piety, and keeping in mind tales of filial piety such as "The Twenty-Four Filial Pieties," it also shows a somewhat ironic stance, skillfully highlighting various aspects of the modern human heart that are the opposite of filial piety. It was later republished under a new title, "Shin Inkago-go."
