Vorontsov, Vasilii Pavlovich

[Died] December 1918.
Russian economist known by his pen name VV. In the 1870s he became close to the Narodnik secret society known as the Tchaikovsky Circle, and from the early 1880s he published many economic papers in legal journals from a populist perspective. He argued that the development of capitalism in Russia was neither desirable nor possible, and debated with PB Struve, GV Plekhanov, Lenin, and others.

Vorontsov, Aleksandr Romanovich

[Died] December 14, 1805.
Russian politician. Served as a diplomat in Britain and the Netherlands. After returning to Russia, he served as Minister of Commerce and diplomatic adviser to Catherine the Great, and made efforts to negotiate trade with France, but these efforts were undone by the outbreak of the French Revolution. He was Prime Minister from 1802 to 1804. He broke off diplomatic relations with Napoleon I and allied with Britain to counter France.

Vorontsov, Mikhail Semenovich

Born: May 30, 1782.
Died November 18, 1856. Odessa Russian politician, military man, and marshal. From 1806 to 1814, he played an active role in the war against Napoleon's army. From 1823 to 1844, he served as Governor-General of Novorossia and Bessarabia, where he worked to improve agricultural problems in the region. From 1844 to 1854, he served as Governor-General of the Caucasus. As a moderate, liberal bureaucrat, he demonstrated administrative skills.
