Okura Yataro (Toraaki)

...A Kyogen actor of the Okura school in the early Edo period. Born as the eldest son of Torakiyo, the successor of Okura Toramasa, the de facto founder of the Okura school, and the daughter of the master of the drum, Yuki Masanobu. His childhood name was Kumazo (Kuma). His common name was Yataro, and later Yaemon. His given name was originally Torajiro. His Buddhist name was Shinsodotetsu Koji. He began studying under his father at the age of five. At the age of six, he made his debut in a Noh performance after the Kasuga Wakamiya Festival in Nara, and was awarded the honorary title of Tayu, given to masters and young actors, by the monks of Kofuku-ji Temple. There are few records of his activities from his childhood after that, and the only thing known is that he performed with his father in a Noh performance for Kodai-in (the wife of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, Nene) in Osaka in 1605 (Keicho 10).

…江戸初期の大蔵流の狂言役者。事実上の大蔵流流祖大蔵虎政の後嗣虎清と，鼓の名人幸正能の女との間に嫡男として生まれた。幼名熊蔵(熊)。通名弥太郎，後に弥右衛門。諱（いみな）は初め虎時。法名心叟道徹居士。5歳のころより父に師事。6歳で奈良の春日若宮御祭（おんまつり）の後日能で初舞台を踏み，興福寺衆徒中より，名人や幼少の役者に与えられる名誉号である大夫号を贈られたという。以後の幼年期の活動記録は少なく，1605年(慶長10)高台院(豊臣秀吉正室ねね)大坂御成り能での父との共演が知られる程度である。…
