Japanese: 晩化栽培 - ばんかさいばい

Late-planting rice cultivation. It has been practiced since ancient times in the plains of warm regions for the purpose of utilizing the previous crop (→ intercropping) of rice. Since 1953, it has been taken up by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry and tested at agricultural experiment stations in each prefecture in the warm southwest region, and has become widespread thanks to the support of improved varieties, the spread of pesticides, and improved cultivation techniques. Since it is planted about one month later than normal cultivation, it is possible to introduce commercial crops or crops that maintain soil fertility as the previous crop, and it can also be applied to tobacco and rush grass sites, and is used as an emergency measure in the event of a disaster.

水稲の晩植栽培のこと。暖地の平野部で水稲の前作 (→間作 ) 利用を目的にして古くから行われていた。 1953年以降は農林省で取上げ，西南暖地の各県農事試験場で試験され，品種改良，農薬の普及，栽培技術の向上などの条件に支えられて普及した。植付けが普通栽培より約1ヵ月遅いので，前作に商品作物や地力維持作物を導入できるほか，たばこ，藺草 (いぐさ) 跡にも適用することができ，災害時の応急対策としても利用される。
