Pak Yeol

Japanese: 朴烈 - ぼくれつ

Korean social activist. Real name Park Jun-sik. Born in North Gyeongsang Province. Moved to Japan in 1919 and participated in the anarchist movement. In 1922, he cohabited with his comrade Kaneko Fumiko and organized a small circle called the Futeisha. During the Great Kanto Earthquake in 1923, he was arrested along with Kaneko Fumiko, and was convicted of violations of the Public Order Police Law and the Explosives Control Act, as well as a trumped-up charge of high treason, and sentenced to death (the Park Yeol Incident). He was pardoned the same year and his sentence was commuted to life imprisonment, but Kaneko committed suicide. Released after the war, he founded the Korean Residents Union in Japan (Mindan) in 1946, and returned to South Korea in 1949, becoming a state councillor in the Syngman Rhee administration. He was taken to North Korea during the Korean War in 1950, and later became vice chairman of the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of North and South Korea.

朝鮮の社会運動家。本名朴準植。慶尚北道生れ。1919年渡日，アナーキズム運動に参加。1922年同志金子文子と同棲，小サークル〈不逞社〉を組織。1923年関東大震災時，金子文子とともに拘束，治安警察法違反，爆発物取締罰則違反，そのうえ大逆罪にでっちあげられ死刑宣告（朴烈事件）。同年恩赦で無期懲役に減刑されたが，金子は自殺。戦後釈放され，1946年在日本朝鮮居留民団（民団）を結成，1949年韓国に帰り李承晩政権の国務委員。1950年朝鮮戦争時北朝鮮に連行され，のち南北平和統一委員会副委員長。
