Tokura Pass

Japanese:
Tokura Pass

This pass is located on the border between Shiso City, Hyōgo Prefecture and Wakasa Town, Yazu District, Tottori Prefecture. It is 891 meters above sea level. Historically, it was an important transportation route connecting the Harima and Izumo regions, and the Shiso area has been greatly influenced by Izumo culture, such as Iwa Shrine and Chikusa ironworks. Since the Edo period, it has been called the Wakasa Kaido and Banshu Orai. It was once plagued by snow, but now National Route 29 runs through it via a tunnel. It is part of Hyōnosen Ushiroyama Nagisan Quasi-National Park, and there is a ski resort at the foot of the mountain on the Hyogo Prefecture side.
