1568‐1647 A Confucian scholar and official of the Yi Dynasty in Korea. His pen name was Zi Qian, and his pen names were Chicheon and Canglang. He was from Jeonju. After passing his liberal arts degree, he became acquainted with Cho Ik and Chang Wei, and studied hard, even studying Yangmingism. He belonged to the Western faction, expelled Prince Gwanghae, and welcomed Injo along with the Jin dynasty. He subsequently held key positions. When the Later Jin (Qing) invaded, he advocated a more realistic view of peace, as opposed to the view of reconciliation advocated by Hong Ik Han and others, and led the peace process by proposing terms for surrender to the Qing. He excelled in writing, and created a style of calligraphy in the style of Dong Qichang. His works include Chicheonshu. His posthumous name was Bunchu.
