A historic city on the left bank of the middle Rhine in the state of Rhineland-Pfalz in western Germany. It was once a settlement of the Celts and was called Vangionum in Roman times. It was the capital of the Burgundian Kingdom from 413 to 436. It is the setting for the epic poem "The Nibelungenlied", written in the early 13th century. A Frankish king built a cathedral there in the early 7th century, and it later became a city directly under imperial rule. It was the site of important conferences such as the Treaty of Worms in 1122 and the Imperial Diet of Worms in 1521 (which voted to strip Luther of his legal rights). Today, it is the center of a grape-growing region, and wine brewing, leather, and mechanical engineering industries are active here. Famous sights include the Romanesque cathedral founded in 1018, the Luther Memorial built in 1868, and the Jewish cemetery. Population: 76,503 (estimated 1991).

ドイツ西部，ラインラントファルツ州，ライン中流左岸にある歴史的都市。古くはケルト人の居住地でローマ時代にウァンギオヌムと呼ばれた。 413～436年にはブルグント王国の首都であった。 13世紀初頭に作られた叙事詩『ニーベルンゲンの歌』の舞台。7世紀初頭フランク王が聖堂を建立，のち帝国直轄都市となり，1122年のウォルムス政教条約，1521年のウォルムス帝国議会 (ルターの法益剥奪を採決) など重要な会議の開催地となった。現在はブドウ栽培地帯の中心地で，ワインの醸造，皮革，機械工業が行われる。 1018年創設のロマネスク大聖堂，1868年建設のルター記念碑，ユダヤ人墓地などが有名。人口7万 6503 (1991推計) 。
