An official diary written by a gaki (advisor) during the Heian period. It can also refer to the private diary of a person in the position of gaki. The oldest excerpt from an official diary is the one dated March 15, 790, intercalary year, quoted in Seiji Yoraku. Fragmentary writings from the mid-Heian period have been preserved in works such as Honcho Seiki and Togu Gogen Hattori Ruiki, but no complete version exists. The gaki diary consists of a daily diary (hinamiki) that records daily events, and a separate diary that records specific ceremonies and events in detail.
