Takio Izawa

A bureaucrat and politician in the Meiji, Taisho and Showa periods. Born on November 24, 1869 in Nagano Prefecture. Younger brother of Izawa Shuji. Attended Imperial University Law School in the same year as Hamaguchi Osachi, Shidehara Kijuro, Onozuka Kiheiji and Takano Iwasaburo. After graduating, he joined the Ministry of Home Affairs and served as governor of Wakayama, Ehime and Niigata prefectures, superintendent general of the Metropolitan Police, governor-general of Taiwan and mayor of Tokyo. He was a member of the House of Peers from 1916 to 1941 and a Privy Councilor from 1940 to 1947. He was close to Hamaguchi Osachi and played an important role as a leader of the Home Affairs bureaucrats affiliated with the Constitutional Democratic Party. Playwright Iizawa Tadasu was his second son. He died on August 13, 1949.

明治・大正・昭和時代の官僚、政治家。明治2年11月24日長野県に生まれる。伊沢修二(しゅうじ)の弟。帝国大学法科大学で浜口雄幸(おさち)、幣原喜重郎(しではらきじゅうろう)、小野塚喜平次(きへいじ)、高野岩三郎らと同期。卒業後内務省に入り、和歌山、愛媛、新潟各県知事、警視総監、台湾総督、東京市長などを歴任、1916～1941年（大正5～昭和16）貴族院議員、1940～1947年枢密顧問官を務めた。浜口雄幸と親しく、立憲民政党系内務官僚の指導者として重きをなした。劇作家飯沢匡(いいざわただす)は二男。昭和24年8月13日没。
