Born: February 13, 1783, Squillace
[Died] August 8, 1855. Turin. Italian soldier and patriot. He participated in the Neapolitan Revolution of 1799, and after the collapse of the Parthenopean Republic, fought in various parts of Europe with the French Army. He participated in the Neapolitan Revolution of 1820 as an active officer, but after the revolution failed he went into exile in England. He returned to Italy during the Italian War of Independence in 1848, and was appointed military commander of the Venetian Republic, fighting against Austria. After the fall of Venice, he went into exile again in Paris, and spent the rest of his life writing.
