Royal Canal

Japanese: ローヤル運河 - ローヤルうんが（英語表記）Royal Canal

A canal with a total length of about 130 km that connects Dublin, Ireland, via Mullingar and Longford to the River Shannon. Construction began in 1789 and opened in 1817. Along with the Grand Canal to the south, which runs from Dublin to Tullamore to the River Shannon to Ballinasloe (construction began in 1756, completed in 1805, total length about 150 km), this is a large canal that runs east-west across the central plains of Ireland. It was intended to develop and transport coal from the Arina area upstream of the Shannon, but this failed, and it was not of much use from the beginning.

アイルランドのダブリンからマリンガー，ロングフォードを経由してシャノン川に結ぶ，全長約130kmの運河。1789年着工，1817年開通。南側の，ダブリン～タラモア～シャノン川～バリナスローと走るグランド運河(1756着工，1805完成。全長約150km)とともに，アイルランド中央平野部を東西に走る大運河で，シャノン川上流アリナ地区の石炭の開発･搬出を予定したとされているが失敗し，開通当初からあまり利用価値はなかった。
