Petrou; Letters of Peter

It is also called the Epistle of Peter. It belongs to the so-called official letters in the New Testament. There are two letters, Petrou A (The First Letter of Peter) and Petrou B (The Second Letter of Peter). The First Epistle was addressed to Christians in Asia Minor, and urges them to endure the present hardships as a time of trial, to maintain faith in God's suffering servant Jesus Christ, to wait for his glorious second coming and the accomplishment of salvation through him, and to respect others, love their brothers, fear God, and respect the kingship. The author is unknown, but there is a theory that it was written by Silvanus, Peter's secretary. The Second Epistle mainly talks about the second coming of Christ and warns against false teachers. Its authenticity is more doubtful than that of the previous one, and it is set in a different era from the previous one, and is thought to have been written after the 130s.

『ペテロ書』ともいう。新約聖書中いわゆる公書と称されるものに属する。『ペテロの第1の手紙』 Petrou A; The First Letter of Peterと『ペテロの第2の手紙』 Petrou B; The Second Letter of Peterがある。『第1の手紙』は，小アジアのキリスト教徒へあてたもので，現在の苦難を試練のときとして耐え，神の苦しむ下僕イエス・キリストへの信仰を維持し，栄光に満ちたその再臨と彼による救いの成就を待つこと，そして人々を敬い，兄弟を愛し，神をおそれ，王権を尊ぶことを訴えている。筆者についてはペテロの秘書役シルバヌス説があるが未詳。『第2の手紙』は，おもにキリストの再臨について述べ，にせの教師に警戒するように説いている。前書に比べてその真筆性は一層疑わしく，前書とは時代背景を異にし，130年代以降のものらしい。
