He was the head priest of Shogo-in Temple in Kyoto during the Muromachi period. He was the son of the Minister of the Left, Konoe Fusatsugu, and later served as the chief priest, legal affairs officer, and quasi-third empress. He also served as the inspector of new Kumano. He set off on a journey for about ten months from June 1486 (Bunmei 18), and compiled his travel writings in the book Kaikoku Zakki (Miscellaneous Travels). From Kyoto, he crossed Ohara, passed through Wakasa and Echizen, and then traveled along the Hokuriku route, stopping at Mt. Hakusan, Mt. Tateyama, and Mt. Isurugi, before arriving in Kanto. In Musashi, he visited Sensoji Temple, Shinobu-ga-oka, Koishikawa, and the Sumida River. He also made extensive visits to Chuzenji Temple in Nikko, Mt. Tsukuba in Hitachi, Tsurugaoka Hachimangū Shrine in Kamakura, Kenchoji Temple, Engakuji Temple, and Shomyoji Temple, as well as Mt. Daisen Temple in Sagami, Mount Kiyosumi in Awa, and Saruhashi Bridge in Kai. He then traveled to Oshu, crossed the Shirakawa Barrier, visited the grave of Fujiwara no Sanekata, Matsuyama, Miyagino, and Matsushima, and finally arrived at the Natori River.

室町時代の京都聖護院門跡。後知足院左大臣近衛房嗣の子で大僧正,法務,准三后となり,新熊野検校(いまくまのけんぎよう)を兼ねた。1486年(文明18)6月から約10ヵ月間旅に出て,その紀行文を《廻国雑記》にまとめた。京都から大原越えで若狭,越前を通り,北陸路は白山,立山,石動(いするぎ)山へも立ち寄りつつ関東に出,武蔵では浅草寺,忍ヶ岡,小石川,隅田川を訪れ,また日光中禅寺,常陸筑波山,鎌倉鶴岡八幡宮,建長寺,円覚寺,称名寺の諸寺,相模大山寺,安房清澄山,甲斐猿橋などを精力的に見物し,足を奥州へ延ばし白河関を越え,藤原実方の墓,松山,宮城野,松島を訪れ名取川に至った。
