Heguri Clan

Japanese:
Heguri Clan

An ancient imperial clan descended from Emperor Kōgen and said to have been founded by Heguri no Tsukuno Sukune, the son of Takeuchi no Sukune. Family name Omi. Based in the northwest corner of the Yamato Basin, Heguri no Tsukuno Sukune. In the mid-5th century, after the fall of the Katsuragi clan, during the reign of Emperor Yūryaku, the clan flourished when Matori became minister. However, at the end of the 5th century, his son Shibi fought with the crown prince (Emperor Buretsu) over a woman, and both father and son were killed by Otomo no Kanamura, who was ordered by the crown prince, and the clan rapidly declined. After that, no high-ranking officials participated in national politics again, and they remained a second-rate clan, but in 684 (the 13th year of Emperor Tenmu's reign), they changed their surname from Omi to Ason, and were given the surname Ason, slightly maintaining their status as a distinguished clan. In the Kōgen section of the Kojiki, they appear to be of the same family as 27 other clans, including Soga, Ki, and Kose, but this is likely a later creation and not true.
