Born: May 3, 1879 in Tokyo [Died] May 8, 1940. Tokyo economist. Graduated from the Department of Tokyo Higher Commercial School (now Hitotsubashi University) in 1902. Became a professor at the same school in 2005. Studied in England and Germany from 2005 to 2009, and served as university president from 1936 to 1940, making great contributions to business administration and economics research, education, and university administration. Considered the founder of business administration in Japan, he also made pioneering contributions in the fields of historical analysis of capitalism, particularly the Industrial Revolution, and population theory. He received his Doctor of Law in 1914, and became a member of the Imperial Academy in 1937. During this time he was active internationally, serving as a government advisor to the First International Labour Conference in 1914, and as the government representative to the International Economic Conference in 1927. His major works include "Economics of the Corporation" (1913), "A Study of the History of the British Industrial Revolution" (23), and "Research on the History of the Industrial Revolution" (24). He also presided over the magazine "Company and Society" (26-28) and advocated neoliberalism, which had a great influence on the business world and society in general. His works are included in the "Complete Works of Ueda Teijiro" (vol. 7, 75), and others include "The Diary of Ueda Teijiro, 1919-1940" (vol. 3, 63).
