Japanese: パネル･ディスカッション（英語表記）panel discussion

A type of group discussion method known as the "roundtable public discussion method." In general, several discussants (panelers) discuss with the guidance of a moderator, after which the audience participates in a question-and-answer session. In a symposium, several presenters each state their own views, which are then used as material for discussion by the entire group. In this method, however, panelists are selected to represent opposing views, and the emphasis is on the discussants engaging in thorough discussion among themselves. However, the relationship to similar group discussion methods is not necessarily clear, as symposiums may also incorporate panel discussion-style discussions.

〈座談式公開討議法〉と呼ばれる集団討議法の一種。一般的には，数人の討論者(パネラー)が司会者の進行により討議を交わし，そのあと聴衆も参加して質疑応答を行う形をとる。シンポジウムでは，数人の報告者がそれぞれ自己の見解を開陳し，それを素材に全員で討議するのに対し，ここでは，パネラーに対立的な意見を代表する者を選び，討論者相互で十分な議論を行うことに重点がおかれる。しかし，シンポジウムのなかにパネル･ディスカッション的な討論が組み込まれる場合もあるなど，類似の集団討議法との関係は必ずしも明確ではない。
